human sexuality

Sex is the most profound and intimate way to express your love for someone. Different people enjoy and pursue sex in different forms—as the pioneering sex researcher Alfred Kinsey put it, the only universal in human sexuality is variability itself. But within the universe of intimacy and pleasure that sex affords is a lot of room for error. Most people are affected by sexual problems at some point in their lives.

Sex and coffee

Coffee, sex and blowing your nose could increase the risk of a type of stroke, say researchers in the Netherlands.
The study on 250 patients identified eight risk factors linked to bleeding on the brain.
They all increase blood pressure which could result in blood vessels bursting, according to research published in the journal Stroke.
The Stroke Association said more research was needed to see if the triggers caused the rupture.
More than 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke each year with nearly 29,000 due to bleeding on the brain.
Bleeding can happen when a weakened blood vessel, known as a brain aneurysm, bursts. This can result in brain damage or death.
The researchers at the University Medical Center in Utrecht looked at 250 patients for three years to identify what triggers ruptures.
They found that coffee was responsible for more than one in 10 burst brain aneurysms.
While people drinking coffee had only a 1.7 times greater risk, it is more common than other risk factors.
Being startled increased the risk by more than 23 times, but was responsible for just 2.7% of cases.
Dr Monique Vlak, a neurologist and the study's lead author, said: "All of the triggers induce a sudden and short increase in blood pressure, which seems a possible common cause for aneurysmal rupture."

Is your wife 'too tired' for sex?

They run on a different biological sleep clock to men and need to go to bed earlier because of it," says a new Harvard study.
Women's circadian rhythms run six minutes faster than men's, making them much more likely to be early birds rather than night owls.
Jeanne Duffy, study co-author from Harvard, said, "What we found was that the cycle length of the biological clock in women was shorter on average than it was in men. The average difference was about six minutes."

Young People Happy With Their Sexual Experiences

Youngsters are, on average, 16 years old and sober when they make their sexual debut with somebody they have known for a while. However, condoms feature in just half of sexual encounters with new or casual partners, reveals a major survey on the sexual habits, attitudes and knowledge of young people carried out by the University of Gothenburg on behalf of the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control. "We have to get young people to view condoms as an essential part of having sex," says Ronny Heikki Tikkanen, one of the researchers behind the study which polled 15,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 29 right across Sweden. "The fact that so many don't use condoms, even though they know that they offer protection against both STIs and unwanted pregnancies, shows how important it is to work on attitudes and behaviour."
The survey clearly demonstrates that those who start having sex at a young age and are generally inclined to take risks with alcohol and drugs are also likely to do so with sex. It is also more common for risk-takers to have accepted payment for sex. Those identified by the study as having exposed themselves to sexual risks have generally encountered HIV prevention initiatives without them having impacted notably on their behaviour.

"We've got to get better at identifying youngsters who take risks," says Margareta Forsberg, R&D manager at the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control. "We also need to be more aware of the link between sexual risks, drugs and social exclusion. If we can come up with support structures at an early stage, we stand a better chance of promoting sexual health, self-esteem and wellbeing." The researchers behind the study are now calling for new methods and strategies for preventive work on sexuality and health for young people.
"Young people want sexual health clinics to be readily accessible, condoms to be distributed at various meeting places and the Internet to be used more widely for advice and support," says Jonna Abelsson, assistant researcher at the University of Gothenburg. "The study offers guidance on the types of initiative that are viable for youngsters. We need to think about whether we're going about things the right way when it comes to reaching those who most need advice and support."
The Ung KAB09 study is the largest of its kind in Sweden and the large number of respondents means that it has huge potential for increasing our knowledge and for investigating the links between different types of experience. As it was carried out partly through an online questionnaire, the study is not entirely representative, but it still makes an important contribution to preventive work on account of its size.

Prolonged Bottle Feeding Increases The Risk Of Obesity

Experts agree that obesity prevention should begin before children enter school. But due to a lack of conclusive data, health care providers often have trouble advising parents about which interventions are the most beneficial. A new study soon to be published in The Journal of Pediatrics suggests that limiting prolonged bottle use in children may be an effective way to help prevent obesity.
Dr. Robert Whitaker and Rachel Gooze of the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple University, and Dr. Sarah Anderson of The Ohio State University College of Public Health, analyzed data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Birth Cohort, a large national study of children born in 2001. They analyzed data from 6750 children to estimate the association between bottle use at 24 months of age and the risk of obesity at 5.5 years of age.
Of the children studied, 22% were prolonged bottle users, meaning that at 2 years of age they used a bottle as their primary drink container and/or were put to bed with   a  calorie-containing bottle. Nearly 23% of the prolonged bottle users were obese by    the      time they      w ere 5.5 years old. "Children who were still using a bottle at 24 months were       approximately 30% more likely to be obese at 5.5 years, even after accounting for other factors such as the mother's weight, the child's birt

h weight, and feeding practices during infancy," Dr. Whitaker notes.
Drinking from a bottle Drinking from a bottle beyond infancy may contribute to obesity by encouraging the child to consume too many calories. "A 24-month-old girl of average weight and height who is put to bed with an 8-ou

nce bottle of whole milk would receive approximately 12% of her daily caloric needs from that bottle," Rachel Gooze explains. She notes that weaning children from the bottle by the time they are 1 year of age is unlikely to cause harm and may prevent obesity. The authors suggest that pediatricians and other health professionals work with parents to find acceptable solutions for stopping bottle use at the child's first birthday.

Fruit Juice is Best For Heart Health, Says Study

Search Amazon.com for heart healthyResearchers from France say a combination of grapes, apples, blueberries and strawberries provide a juice blend that can lower your risk of heart disease.
Scientists looked for a chemical called polyphenol in the fruit and the effect it had on pigs' coronary arteries to help them find the right combination. Grape juice makes up more than half of the formula, which also includes lesser known fruits such as lingonberries, acerola and aronia.
Tracy Parker, heart health dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said: "This research adds more weight to evidence that eating fruit and vegetables is good for us in terms of reducing our risk for heart disease.
"However, we still don't fully understand why, or whether certain fruits and vegetables are better than others. Even this study acknowledges that scientists can't yet explain any link.
"What we do know is that we should all eat a wide range of fruit and veg as part of a balanced diet, and fruit juice is a tasty and handy way of doing this. Don't forget though, juice contains less fibre and more sugar than the original fruit so it only counts as one of our five-a-day."
The research was published in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal, Food and Function

calcium and vitamin D supplements is better

A study has found that increasing dietary calcium and vitamin D or taking calcium and vitamin D supplements is betterSearch Amazon.com for calcium and vitamin D supplements is better than taking prescription bone-building medicines.
Karen Chapman-Novakofski, a U of I professor of nutrition and co-author of the study said that for many people, prescription bone-building medicines should be a last resort.
The study reported that adults who increase their intake of calcium and vitamin D usually increase bone mineral density and reduce the risk for hip fracture significantly.
These results were often accomplished through supplements, but food is also a good source of these nutrients.
The scientist said that prescription bone-building medications are expensive, and many have side effects, including ironically an increase in hip fractures and jaw necrosis.
